Robyn Gibson was born in Auckland New Zealand in 1960. Robyn has a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Painting) from U.C.N.V affiliate La Trobe University Melbourne Victoria, Australia were she lived for a period of 14 years. In 2000 she completed M.F.A at Elam University Auckland six years after her return to NZ in 1994.
Gibson's works juxtapose hints of surrealism with a subtle disarming sense of humour. She has been a prolific and exploratory artist for 28 years with a large number of awards and works in collections in New Zealand and Australia. Painter and sculptor, Robyn Gibson is presently curator at Depot Art space in Devonport Auckland. Robyn says that “humour plays a major part in my work, the light and dark side of life is generally apparent in one form or another. The effects of soft and hard, the obscure and apparent are basic foundations for my starting point. My works are continuing explorations. The direction I take is a combination of clarity and complexity, nature and man-made devices."
