Gerry Nigro was born in Auckland and studied at Elam School of Fine Arts.

He lived in Auckland, Rotorua and Hamilton then headed to Australia living in both New South Wales and Queensland

​

He traveled extensively in Europe, England and it was when he visited New York he gained the inspiration from which he created his "Island Series" of works.
